This is a political cartoon which depicts members of the KKK relaxing after lynching 3 black men. I find the KKK horrifying since they have so much power against innocent black men, and they terrorize blacks without suffering any consequences from the law. Even some police officers are part of the KKK, which allow the KKK to relax and not worry of being punished for abusing blacks.
I’m scared. And I hate myself . I hate how I’m scared of them. I hate how I’m letting mysef be taken advantage again. I hate how I cower under their presence. I hate the Ku Klux Klan.
It’s been over 3 years since I have written in this blog, and John and my family are still sharecroppers. Thankfully, our Holy Father has blessed us with good harvest over the years, and John and I are holding up just fine. Even if we can never live the luxurious fairy tale the white men live, we still live a good one. I’m just eternally grateful for President Lincoln for freeing the slaves, thus guaranteeing that our beautiful family will stick together.
But so much has happened over the last 3 years. There has been the growth of a new power, called the Ku Klux Klan, or KKK. The KKK are a group of white supremacists whose main intention is to terrorize blacks who they absolutely hate. At first, me and my John laughed at them. They looked knee-slapping funny in their white costumes, as if they were a joke that belonged to a freak show. They looked like little children, who wanted to dress up as a ghost on Halloween. I was absolutely sure that the policemen were going to take care of them if the racial situation went too far. But how I was wrong.
I find it utterly unbelievable how cruel and racist these white men can be. The KKK are horrifying, and they are extremely violent. They lynch blacks, burn them, raid their houses, and destroy their property. And most of the white policemen don’t do anything about them. They just stand and watch our black’s lives suffer and cower under them. Some of the white policemen are even members of the KKK themselves. Yes, men who we entrust to protect us are the same men who terrorize us and cause us to fear of upsetting a white person everyday.
I am completely frightened by the KKK and I hate myself for that. I am a strong woman. I am a free woman. I am a provider for my family. But when I picture the KKK, in their white long caps and gowns, riding their horses down the road, I shiver.
I was in town the other day with Amy and Charlie, my beautiful children. When I was walking away from the grocery store after shopping for food, I saw a black man. He was hanging from a rope tied to a tree, his tongue sticking out of his hung down head. The bottom half of his body was ashy and charred. I froze for a moment, and a huge wave of fear wept over me again. But I had to take control of myself and act like nothing was wrong for my childrens’ sake. I immediately led Amy and Charlie the other way, putting on a happy smile and chatting away to distract them until we got far away from the lifeless body that the KKK had lynched.
Everytime I go into town, or everytime I see a white man I’m worried if I am doing something or if they catch me saying something that they find displeasing. In the middle of the night, I heard blood curdling screams. I later found out that a party of KKK members dragged a black man and his family out of his house to be lynched, for “displeasing” a white person.

These are members of the KKK, who have dressed up in their white cap and gown costume. John and I first laughed at how ridiculous they looked in their costumes, but now, after seeing the power of what they can do I associate their costumes with fear and terror as they ride in the night on horses to abuse blacks.
